General Directorate of Standardization and Metrology – Oman

The Ministry was established by virtue of Sultanate Royal Decree No. 40/74. At that time, it was composed of following three general directorates: The Directorate General for Commerce, The Directorate General for Industry and the General Divan of the Ministry in addition to a bureau for commerce and industry in DHOFAR Governorate. Because of the expansion of the activities undertaken by the Ministry, other organizational subdivisions continued to occur. They had included the following general directorates:-
The Directorate General for Planning and Follow-up
The Directorate General for Administrative and Financial Affairs
The Directorate General for Commerce
The Directorate General for Industry
The Directorate General for Metals
The Directorate General for Specifications and Metrology
The Directorate General for Development of Small and Medium Enterprises
The Directorate General for Organizations and Commercial Relations
The Directorate General for Commerce and Industry in DHOFAR Governorate
The Directorate General for Commerce and Industry in AL-BATINAH Governorate
The Commercial Office of the Sultanate of Oman in Dubai
This is in addition to other subdivisions. Moreover, the Ministry has established an office for the Sultanate in the World Trade Organization (WTO) for the purpose of negotiation and consultation with WTO in the various issues, follow up of the implementation of the Omani obligations towards the WTO and follow up of the various recommendations in coordination with the other parties.
